In this final post I will be showing you how I make my work.

I hand cut and polish the glass using glass snippers, a glass grinder, and polishing wheel. The glass is set into fabricated silver cells sometimes with concrete or Jesmonite and ground down using a “flat lap” or lapidary grinder
and finally polished.

Due to the nature of my process, no two pieces are exactly the same. This is particularly true of my terrazzo pieces where the outcome is always dependent on chance. There is a real element of surprise due to the random nature of the work which is exciting and means if you own a piece of my jewellery you can be guaranteed it is truly unique.

Much of the glass I use is given to me by glass artists. Pieces too small for them to use. My offcuts are kept and used in my Terrazzo pieces. It’s good to know I’m using a material that may otherwise end up in landfill.

Hello! It's @NatalieBakerJewellery continuing my #TeaGreenTakeover
In this second post I'm going to share a bit more about what I make and my inspirations.

I combine silver with unusual materials such as hand cut glass, polished concrete and Jesmonite. I’m really interested in the basic elemental quality of these materials which are usually associated with construction and love the process of turning them into something beautiful, wearable and unique. I liken this process to alchemy.

I love colour, the transparency of glass which gives the colour depth and the way the silver underneath works to reflect the light back.
I find the contrast of reflective metal, richly coloured transparent glass and smooth polished concrete intensely satisfying.
In my work, I strive to achieve a modern and contemporary aesthetic characterised by clean, sharp lines, and vibrant colours.
Inspiration comes in many forms but I am particularly interested in abstract art especially the “hard-edge painting” of Bridget Riley, Ellsworth Kelly and Josef Albers amongst others.
